The lesson program is based on the teachings of Sally Swift and the Centered Riding Program. The students are not only taught a balanced and independent seat, they are also taught basic horsemanship. The lessons and instruction cover basic grooming and tack as well as how to diagnose lameness and the symptoms of common illnesses and the appropriate treatment thereof. All lessons are held in a “private lesson” atmosphere as this is a more direct fomi of instruction and offers more security and focus especially for beginners or those coming back to horses after a prolonged break. Lessons are taught in one of two riding rings and sometimes are taken into the field where students apply the knowledge they have learned in the ring as well as how to handle any “horse emergencies”, such as spooking or the occasional flight response horses are so famous for. The students are also taught ring, barn and open riding such as fox hunting and trail etiquette so that they can confidently ride in any circumstance. The barn is centrally located in the Pungo area of Virginia Beach and offers a quiet and peaceful setting for relaxed riding and enjoyment of your time with the horses.
